Caleido is a community platform designed to support people through the different stages of moving to a new country, from preparing documents and submitting applications to settling in, finding work, and building a new life.
The idea was inspired by my own immigration experience and the isolation, homesickness, and lack of guidance that can come with starting over somewhere unfamiliar.
I developed Caleido as my two-semester graduation project at Emily Carr University, where it received an A+. The experience was designed around connection and shared knowledge, helping new immigrants learn from people who had already faced similar challenges.
Levels and progress made the journey feel more manageable, while community features helped people find guidance, build connections, and feel less alone.
I created this promotional video to communicate more than a list of product features.
The story begins with the emotional reality of arriving somewhere new, then gradually introduces Caleido as a community that helps immigrants find guidance, build meaningful connections, and move forward with more confidence.
I planned the narrative, created the illustrations and visual assets in Adobe Illustrator, animated the experience in Keynote, and brought everything together into one connected product story.
The video became an important part of my A+ graduation project and received memorable feedback from professors, employers, and other designers for its storytelling and emotional clarity.
In this version, I walk through the idea behind Caleido, the personal experience that inspired it, and how the product supports immigrants through different stages of starting over in a new country.
It gives more context around the problem, the design decisions, and the thinking behind my A+ graduation project.
I also created a shorter version using only illustration, animation, music, and product screens.
Without narration, the story relies entirely on pacing, visual transitions, and emotion to move from the challenges of immigration into the Caleido experience.
I created the illustrations in Adobe Illustrator and animated the full sequence in Apple Keynote.
The most important part of this video was showing why Caleido needed to exist before explaining how the product worked.
I used pacing, sound, motion, and visual transitions to move from the emotional problem into the product solution. Instead of presenting a collection of interface screens, I wanted viewers to understand the experience of starting over somewhere unfamiliar and the value of having support.
This project showed me how storytelling can help people understand not only what a product does, but why it matters.
This page focuses on the promotional video and the story behind it. The full project includes the research, product concept, user journey, interface design, and complete two-semester graduation process.
